What happens to your email address, and what else we do and don't collect.
If you sign up for email, we send your address and the name of the lake, river, tide station or state stocking report you asked about to Listmonk, the service that sends the emails and keeps the list. Nothing is stored on this site; there is no database here to store it in.
Signing up does not subscribe you. Listmonk emails you a confirmation link first, and you are only on the list once you click it. If you don't click, we send at most one reminder, and after that the address goes nowhere. Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately, and you can ask us to delete your address entirely at [email protected].
We do not sell, rent, or share your address with anyone else. We send only the update you signed up for, and notes about your subscription itself, such as that one reminder to confirm or a question when a signup reached us without the water it was for.
Links in our emails pass through a short redirect on this site (an address starting mywaterlevel.com/e/) so we can count how many readers clicked through each week, in total. The link carries the date the email was sent and the page it leads to, never who you are, and the emails carry no tracking pixel, so we don't know whether you opened one.
The site itself sets no cookies and carries no analytics or advertising script. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs of requests (IP address, page, timestamp), which is how we know how many people visited without tracking who they are. Pages that fetch a live reading call the publishing agency (USGS, NOAA, or the reservoir's operator) directly from your browser, so those agencies see that request the same way any website visit is seen.
The list of places you save with the star button is stored by your own browser, on your own device. It is never sent anywhere, which is also why it does not follow you to a different phone or computer.
Feedback is accepted only from an email address with a confirmed subscription. The feedback Worker verifies that status in Listmonk, then delivers the page reference, message, and reply address to our private feedback inbox.
Questions
How do I get off the list?
Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email. It takes effect immediately, and you do not have to tell us why.
Will you ever email me something else?
Only the update you chose: a weekly email for a lake, river, tide station or marine zone, or, for a state's stocking report, an email when the state posts new stockings. Anything different would be something you opt into separately.
Do you use my email to identify me on the site?
No. There are no accounts and no logins here, and the site has no way to connect a visit to a subscriber.
